Guided hikes and climbs in Table Mountain National Park

Why a guided tour?

A simple fact: More people die on Table mountain each year than on Everest! It is not a harmless stroll, as weather changes quickly, fog is common and water is scarce ...
Only the beaten track is obvious, but there's more to see than that. For me, guiding consists not only in showing the way but in explaining the flora and ecosystem as a whole. And there is more to talk about in this part of the world! Or is it the silence of meditating you're looking for?

Table Mountain Waterworks

The victorian water supply on top of Table Mountain is a historical monument worth taking a look at. There are 5 dams and a small museum, housing old machinery and even a steam locomotive, which used to service a rail link between a provisional cable car and the construction site of the dams.
Needless to say that views and flora are spectacular, and the silence on top of the plateau is just fascinating!

Devil's Peak

The least visited summit of the Table Mountain troika provides the most extensive panorama of the Mother City. Starting at Rhodes-Memorial via King's Blockhouse, theree is reason enough to reflect on the english history of the Cape Colony.

Chapman's Peak

The mountain above the famous Chapman's Peak Drive offers a short hike which is extensible according to fitness. The East Fort at the start of the route was built by french soldiers - the only trace of this former colonial power, not seen anywhere else in the cape.
Views over the "wooded bay" to the Sentinel, guarding the fishing harbour, and a seal-crowded Island leave nothing to wish for.

Day hikes for fit people; hiking boots and rucksack necessary.
More hikes on request. For availability in 2007, please check my list of tours.
